The ideal body weight formula

I have always had a tough time figuring how much I should really be weighing. I don't look overweight, but somehow, I'm not really light either (the husband had a tough time picking me up when I had a fall). I tried the weight calculators, BMI formulae, blah, blah and blah and I was still clueless. Till I met a doctor from AIIMS, New Delhi. He told me, "It's so simple. Measure your height in centimetres and subtract 100 from that and that's your ideal body weight in kilograms."

So the equation is,

Ideal body weight (kg) = Height in cm - 100

I happen to be around 5 ft 2 in, which translates into 157.48 cm (according to this table) so my ideal weight is around 57.5 kg. WOW! And that actually is my weight! Makes me feel so much better now.

Hi....
i am a avid follower of your blog..i feel your formula is wrong. i am 177cm - 100 will give me 77 kg, which i feel is not my correct weight..

for absolutely dead -on correct weight visit website by Dr Halls MD.

In that he has used 2 formulas
1) devine formula for men
2) robinson formula for women..

I believe you should recheck the values there...

there are tons of info,,including age corrected weight..
By the way..i am a fit indian,..run 5k in 25 minutes..age 41, and my current weight is 75kg, my ideal weight is 160 lbs..translates to around 72kg...but it is hard..
I use GARMIN for my runs, with Heart rate monitior...
I know which zone i am working..
enjoy..

I am 76 years old, five feet four and a half inches tall and weigh 68 Kg. For a BMI of 25, my weight should be a little less than 59 Kg. Till three months back I weighed 75 Kg. By cutting down on the quantity and changing the type of food that I ate along with walking for 45 minutes in the morning and 45 minutes in the evening, I have lost 7 Kg. I need to shed 9 more kilos by the BMI formula and may be only 3 kilos by the formula of height in cms less hundred. Let me see how it goes. I understand that further loss of weight would become more and more difficult. Well... Well.....Well.
