Resplendent greens
Woven histories.
This human greed
The lust for power
A violent mob
Listens no further.
It descends upon
An object or being
Clubs and torches
Reduce it to ashes.
Racist remarks
Acid comments
Fears and questions
Beaten to submission.
The media frenzy
Opinionated celebrities
Prime-time debates:
Shouting matches.
As voices turn hoarse
And cameras shy away
Under those ashes:
Smothered humanity.
