Or perhaps they are, as we say in Farsi, like a finely tapered braid and so thin that no teeth could bite into them. In other words, this half-couplet could imply that no man has ever bitten Shirin's lips, or that her lips have never touched a man's teeth, or even that her teeth have never bitten a man's lips. Do you think there is any better way to describe a woman's virginity than to suggest that she has never experienced a stolen kiss?

Much of human thought is about correlation and understanding patterns and working with them or looking beyond them. Pathaan: What's in a name?

It took me five sittings to watch #Pathaan on Amazon Prime and I've had this head-scratching moment: 

He's called Pathaan because his adopted family in Afghanistan call him, "Pathaan." 

And strangely, over the last decade of working with Afghans, I have heard them identify themselves as Pashtun, never Pathan. That's because Pathan is a term used for the Afghan settlers in Swat and around in north-west Pakistan by Western/British sources that became popular among the Hindi-Urdu speaking populace of South Asia through British-style education.
