Garba is a popular folk dance in Gujarat. What people don't often know is that garba is also the song. Dhruti Mankodi is an educator, mentor, artist and singer from Vadodara, Gujarat. A prominent member of the Gujarati Nagar Brahmin community, she talks about the sitting (baitha) garbas that are performed only by this community and then moves on to discuss how she weaves in messages about education, women's empowerment, health, child rights and voting rights into folk media to appeal to a larger audience. This episode of The Write Creed celebrates the composition of traditional Indian folk music in Dhruti's melodious voice.
