Fear

Fear of failure
Of not doing enough
Fear of pushing ourselves too much
Until we wither
Fear of loss
Of too much of happiness
Of envy, of bother
Fear of losing our purpose
Our life, our way
Fear of song
For someone might think it's noise
Fear of saying, for who may hear us
And who won't
Fear of uncertainty
Of prejudice
Of hate and even of love
Oh! What has this world come to?
For we fear our own laughter
Our happiness
That this may pass too soon
Or the moment will miss us
Fear of what we believe in
For we don't know who might disapprove
And self-doubt creeps in
Through those crevices of our broken hopes
And desires
And dreams
Of words we never spoke
For we feared our own voices
Like those in our heads
Fear that some day we won't be independent
From whom?
Our rules, our peoples, our rituals, us?
How much fear can we live by or live with?
How much more will we deny?
For the fear of losing face?
We feed our bodies
We feed our minds
We buy our peace
Like we buy time
For you live only once, right?

Neuroscience: When two deaf-mute kids talked and I couldn't hear them

Two kids with hearing impairments. One is 4, the other 8. One of them has a cochlear implant. They cannot speak the way we do. They do not know the sign language, yet. But they communicate, with their signs and some sounds, to play for 15 minutes. It's the most beautiful thing to be the most able-bodied person in their space and not know a thing about what is going on 🙂 #speech #deafcommunity #deafmute #neurodiversity #neurology #neuroscience #communication #hearingimpaired #speech #amazingchildren

Where do you get your books from?

You feature The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks in your reading journey and the Oliver Sacks Foundation gets in touch with you providing you with resources about more of his works. 😆

People have asked me where I get my books from for my reading challenge that takes me through 50-60 books a year.

Well, some you buy.

Many are gifted by authors, editors and friends (especially those cleaning out their houses).

Amazon has taken into consideration that you have rated over 200 books over a decade and so they give you more variety in free Prime Reading.

The British Council Library helps you look for and source rare books.

You exchange books with people.

You are a regular at a children's book club at Crossword so you get to exchange your child's old books with new titles when they have the programme.

You've inherited a huge collection through your extended family.

And you sift through Books by Box/Kilo sales to grab great deals on coffee table books on design and art.

I see work as therapy. Many times after violence and riots, when we went to see the victims in the Relief Camps, the first thing the women ask is "Have you brought work?" That impulse to work is a demand for normalcy; it is the poetry of ordinariness, a rythm that guarantees survival and continuity. For a woman, work combines production and reproduction. It is the language of continuity and survival that we call peace.

Neuroscience: The Stressed-out Boy writes the alphabet in mirror-image form

Another amazing child I have met recently is a boy of six years, who, under stress, ends up writing the entire English alphabet as a mirror image. When he is not stressed, he writes it in its usual form. #neuroscience #howthebrainworks #behaviourscience #behaviouralpsychology #amazingchildren

Don't be a jerk. Have a jerky!

India is the world's largest exporter of buffalo meat. Finally, someone thought of presenting it differently for the local market. Thank you #dokifoods for these spicy protein snacks.
