About Narcissists

This came to me as a Facebook post someone shared and it touched a nerve (or two):

Narcissists know how to frame things in just the right way.

They know what to say and what not to say to make you THINK they’re trustworthy, honest, and sometimes, even humble.

Especially in the beginning of a relationship.

How they do this depends largely on the type of narcissist you’re dealing with.

Let’s look at grandiose and vulnerable (covert) narcissists.

Grandiose narcissists create a false sense of connection by:

-Being charming and charismatic
-Making small talk easily
-Giving you lots of attention and praise
-Complimenting you
-Giving you gifts
-Impressing you with their achievements

Vulnerable/covert narcissists create a false sense of connection by:

-Getting you to feel sorry for them
-Always needing your help
-Expressing appreciation for your support
-Sharing “deeply personal” information with you
-Relying on you for encouragement
-Implying their well-being depends on you (“I don’t know what I would do without you.”)

Why are dinos so drab?

If birds and reptiles evolved from dinosaurs then they must have been more colourful than those in Jurassic Park 😆

The slow birder

I tell a friend that in an age of birdwatching characterized by people lugging 600mm lenses, I am still not a bird photographer and he comments, "The 100-page notebook." Well, it's an upgrade to the digital age #ebird by the Cornell Lab but I am still a slow birder 😆 What the camera often misses are the finer points. Like today, when all of the dozen red-wattled lapwings and bank mynas around the Bhayli canal area suddenly disappeared in less than 24 hours. #birderslife #birdcensus #vadodarabirds

Book 35: It Takes Two by Cathy Newman

Book 35: It Takes Two - A history of couples who dared to be different
Author: Cathy Newman (UK) 🇬🇧
Genre: Non-fiction
Set in: UK đŸ‡ŹđŸ‡§ USA 🇺🇸 Germany 🇩🇪 Spain 🇪🇸 France 🇫🇷 Nigeria 🇳🇬 India 🇮🇳

Page 70: In the end it is not possible to say with any accuracy how involved in Antoine Lavoisier's work Marie-Ann was. She was a true multihyphenate: her husband's researcher, assistant, translator and collaborator; also his illustrator and then later, Antoine's editor and publisher. She probably wouldn't have had enough of the right sort of training to make significant discoveries. One of her main jobs was translating papers by the likes of Priestly and Cavendish into French so that her husband could read them. So she was a communication aid - an amanuensis. And as one of the most intriguing and successful stories of creative collaboration shows, that this is one of the most important roles anyone can play.

Ode to Kasturba in Marathi

This ode to Kasturba Gandhi in Marathi (Kasturichi Vishranti) at the Aga Khan Palace in Pune speaks of the support she gave her husband that helped him become Mahatma Gandhi from Mohandas Karamchand. I wish they mentioned the poet who penned these lines. I shall not attempt to translate them here, for I think they'll lose their meaning in my words. #gandhi #mahatmagandhi #KasturbaGandhi #agakhanpalace #pune #history #india #museums

Bored

Being "bored" is a Western concept and that's why you find very few words in Indian languages that have the same meanings to the words, "boring" or "boredom". Let's just say, Indians, before they got to know the British, were never really boring or bored 😂 #linguistics #boring #boredom #india #history #british #western
