About Narcissists

This came to me as a Facebook post someone shared and it touched a nerve (or two):

Narcissists know how to frame things in just the right way.

They know what to say and what not to say to make you THINK they’re trustworthy, honest, and sometimes, even humble.

Especially in the beginning of a relationship.

How they do this depends largely on the type of narcissist you’re dealing with.

Let’s look at grandiose and vulnerable (covert) narcissists. 

Grandiose narcissists create a false sense of connection by:

-Being charming and charismatic

-Making small talk easily

-Giving you lots of attention and praise

-Complimenting you 

-Giving you gifts

-Impressing you with their achievements

Vulnerable/covert narcissists create a false sense of connection by:

-Getting you to feel sorry for them

-Always needing your help

-Expressing appreciation for your support

-Sharing “deeply personal” information with you

-Relying on you for encouragement 

-Implying their well-being depends on you (“I don’t know what I would do without you.”)
